I created this cocktail as a birthday present for Frank Sinatra, because this week would be the 105th birthday of one of the brightest stars in the history of showbiz. Manhattan cocktail My way is a drink created for the legend known as “The Voice”, who was born on December 12th, 1915. He famously loved whiskey and was even buried with a bottle of his favorite - Jack Daniel’s. That’s why in 2012 Jack Daniel’s released Sinatra Select. It's what they call »a tribute to Jack’s biggest fan«. He also loved stuffed artichokes and cocktails, so a Manhattan with artichokes added it is! Make sure to raise a glass and toast "the Chairman of the Board". And don’t worry, the best is yet to come and, friends, won’t that be fine? How I made the Birthday present for Frank Sinatra?
Manhattan My Way
• 60 ml (2 oz) Sinatra Select Jack Daniel’s
• 30 ml (1 oz) artichoke-infused Antica Formula*
• 1 barspoon Palo Cortado Sherry
• 1 dash Angostura bitters
• 2 dashes Cynar
Stir over ice and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a candied cherry.
Artichoke-infused Antica Formula
• 45 g artichoke
• 120 ml (4 oz) Antica Formula vermouth
Start by snipping off the ends of the petals with scissors, to remove the thorns, trim the stem. Weigh the artichoke and cut it lengthwise, aiming for around 45 g of the artichoke. Place that in sous vide bag and add 120 ml (4 oz) of Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth. Seal the bag and place it in sous vide water bath for 5 hours, set to 55° C or 130° F. Then take out the bag and leave it to cool to room temperature before straining and bottling.
